Factories and plants often face security problems. Large areas, multiple departments,
hundreds of workers and large amounts of tools, as well as a variety of resources and
lack of proper factory surveillance can often cause issues that negatively affect the
production lifecycle.
Searching for a smart solution to the problem, our client requested the development of
surveillance software that united the power of IoT and artificial intelligence to
ensure plant security.
Large plants often have to face the same problem – lack of control. What were the risks our client faced?
Sometimes, unauthorized workers or visitors access departments that work with secret information (business plans, new inventions, orders processing, etc.). All this information is a competitive advantage and can harm the business when in the wrong hands.
Some workers lose motivation when they aren’t controlled from above. They start to procrastinate, spend too much time on lunch breaks, and talk on the phone for hours. Their low working productivity can costs too much for the business.
Sometimes, unauthorized workers or visitors access departments that work with secret information (business plans, new inventions, orders processing, etc.). All this information is a competitive advantage and can harm the business when in the wrong hands.
These different problems require one simple solution - proper surveillance. One of the options could be hiring several supervisors that control all factory processes. However, this approach requires too many resources and money but doesn’t guarantee significant improvements. Moreover, the human factor remains an important problem and can be solved only with proper process automation.
The optimal solution is a custom factory surveillance system employing IoT and artificial
intelligence.
Clockwise Software joined the remote team and took over the design and frontend development
of the product. Our main task was to ensure the smooth interaction of company managers with
the data stream coming from different types of sensors. These sensors can record audio and
video, recognize a person’s face or voice using artificial intelligence algorithms, track
various activities, scan QR codes, and, even more important, recognize suspicious activity
and send instant notifications to responsible managers.
Our team focused on designing an intuitive dashboard that displays recent activity using the data stream from installed sensors and statistics captured by the surveillance system.
One of the central components of the product is a dashboard displaying statistics on different types of events. CanvasJS was used as a JavaScript data charts rendering library. The use of D3.js enables to manually shadow privacy zones from observation.
To efficiently test the frontend we needed access to server data, which was unavailable in the initial stages of development. So, we created a mock data generator to make the frontend development and testing independent from the backend team.
Excellent experience with Andrei and his team. Flexible to accommodate change in requirements. Excellent quality of work. Good communication. Always available on skype for discussions.
